Developing a training version of the M1911 pistol was a project that was shelved by the First World War. This prototype Springfield Armory .22 rimfire pistol was designed first in .22 short, then in .22 long rifle chambering. Only 25 were made. This particular .22 slide and barrel were originally mounted on another frame (SN499XXX), but may have been swapped in testing.
