Here is how the constrictions in the Fabarm HP chokes stacks up to the Trulock references as recently measured by Randy Wakeman in his review of Fabarm’s XLR 5 semi-automatic (
http://randywakeman.com/ReviewFabarmXLR ... artOne.htm): # 0 = .003, # 2 = .011, # 5 = 0.26, # 7 = .034, and # 9 = 0.45. Thus, the Fabarm chokes correspond with Skeet (0), Improved Cylinder (2), Improved Modified (5), Full (7) and Super Full (9). One has to appreciate the effort Randy Wakeman put into determining these measures as they are currently unavailable elsewhere. While I'm not perfectly sure due to the lack of information, I believe the Exis and Inner chokes are interchangeable depending on your preferences. I recently bought a second #5 choke for trap shooting, which cost $60, approximately the same as other chokes of similar quality.
The manufacturing quality of the Fabarm chokes appears excellent, and the numbers 5 and 7 chokes throw patterns that make nice solid hits on clay pigeons at 40 yards. In addition, the combination of the long length and the hyperbolic profile of the HP chokes allow them to be used with high performance steel shot up to and including the #9 Super Full choke. This is a constriction that no other chokes on the market can match when shooting steel. I’ve not yet patterned this particular choke with a turkey load, but I can imagine it will give excellent results in spring and fall turkey hunts. Clearly, the quality and versatility of these Fabarm chokes means that there is no reason to have to search out aftermarket products either for competition or for waterfowl hunting.
Fabarm gives you a full array of very good quality extended chokes. All of these “EXIS HP™ Competition Chokes” are steel rated. I measured the supplied chokes; the exit diameters are as follows: Exis skeet=.722, Exis HP Short 2/10= .714 in., Exis HP Medium 5/10=.699 in., Exis Long 7/10= .691, Exis HP Extreme 9/10= .680. Based on a nominal bore diameter before the choke of .725 inches, the actual constrictions approximate: Skeet: .003 in., Exis #2 .011 in., Exis #5 .026 inch, Exis #7 .034 in., Exis #9 .045 inch effective constriction. Pattern percentage is commensurate with constriction. With B & P Legend 1-1/8 oz. #7-1/2 1230 fps loads the Exis 2 choke gave consistent ink-blots at 40 yards, with only about eleven thousandths of constriction.
